Bohol is one of the few destinations in the Philippines that offers a little bit of everything. It’s a destination that easily blends adventure, nature, history, beaches, and good food without feeling rushed.

Freediving in Bohol is one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back to Bohol. Panglao has some of the most accessible dive sites in the country, whether you’re a complete beginner or already certified.

For hikers and photographers, Alicia Panoramic Park offers one of the most scenic landscapes in Bohol. The rolling green hills become even more beautiful at sunrise, especially if you’re lucky enough to catch a sea of clouds.

Try Jetski & Wakeboarding
One of my newest discoveries in Bohol was wakeboarding in Tagbilaran. I actually found it through TikTok and decided to try it before it became more popular, and it didn’t disappoint.
The wakeboarding area sits beside Becca Café x Bistro, making it a fun place to spend the afternoon before enjoying dinner by the water.

How to Get to Bohol
Getting to Bohol is easier than ever, thanks to direct flights from major cities in the Philippines and convenient ferry routes from neighboring islands. Whether you’re arriving by air or sea, you’ll most likely start your trip in Panglao or Tagbilaran City.
By Air
The fastest way to reach Bohol is by flying into Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG).
Domestic Flights
- Manila → Panglao
- Cebu → Panglao
- Davao → Panglao
- Iloilo → Panglao
These routes are primarily operated by Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines.
For international flights, Panglao Airport serves direct routes to Seoul and Busan in South Korea operated by Jeju Air, Jin Air, and Air Busan.
By Sea
If you’re already traveling around the Visayas, taking the ferry is another convenient option. Daily fast ferries connect Tagbilaran City with several nearby destinations.

Getting Around Bohol
Bohol is a large province, but getting around is relatively easy depending on where you plan to explore.
Rent a Scooter (My Favorite Option)
This is my favorite way to travel around Panglao. It gives you the freedom to chase sunsets, café-hop, visit beaches, and stop anywhere you like without worrying about transportation schedules.

- Driver’s license required
- Best for solo travelers and couples
- Fuel is inexpensive and stations are easy to find
If you’re comfortable riding a motorbike, I highly recommend this option.
Ride a Tuktuk
If you don’t drive, tuk-tuks are everywhere around Panglao and are perfect for short trips between beaches, cafés, restaurants, and accommodations.

Always agree on the fare before starting your trip.
Hire a Private Car
For longer trips around mainland Bohol—especially the Countryside Tour—a private car with a driver is one of the most comfortable options. It’s ideal for families, groups, or travelers who simply want a hassle-free day exploring the island.

I’ve stayed in several accommodations throughout my trips to Bohol, switching between hostels and private resorts depending on whether I was diving, working remotely, or simply taking a vacation. These are the places I’d happily recommend.
Abraham Bohol (My Favorite Hostel)
If I had to recommend just one hostel in Panglao, it would be Abraham Bohol.
It’s close to the airport and only a short ride from Alona Beach, making it a convenient base for solo travelers. The social atmosphere makes it easy to meet other travelers, while the facilities are comfortable enough for longer stays.
Abraham Bohol is best for solo travelers, digital nomads, and backpackers.

3 Best Beaches in Panglao
Whenever I’m in Panglao, I somehow end up by the beach—even if I’m not planning to swim. Sometimes I’ll bring my laptop to work by the shore, other times I’ll simply grab a coffee and watch the sunset. If you’re wondering where to spend a slow afternoon, these are my favorite beaches in Panglao.
Alona Beach
Alona is the heart of Panglao. It is the busiest and most popular beach in Panglao. It’s the main jump-off point for island hopping tours and is lined with restaurants, cafés, bars, dive shops, and resorts.

- Plenty of restaurants and nightlife
- Great for people-watching
While it’s my least favorite beach because of the crowds, I still think every first-time visitor should experience Alona during the day and again at night.
Oceanica Resort (Formerly South Palms)
This has become my little post-freedive tradition. After a day underwater, I usually head here to relax, grab a snack, and enjoy the peaceful beachfront before calling it a day.

Walk-in guests are welcome, but make sure to order food or drinks as a courtesy since it’s a private resort.
Bohol Beach Club
If you’re looking for a quieter beach with fewer crowds, Bohol Beach Club is one of the most beautiful private beaches in Panglao. The powdery white sand, clear water, and rows of coconut trees make it one of my favorite places to simply slow down.

💡 Tips for Visiting Private Resorts as a Walk-in Guest
If you aren’t staying at these luxury resorts but want to enjoy their beaches, here is how to do it respectfully:
- Always Order Something: Whether it’s a fresh mango shake, a snack, or a coffee, it’s common courtesy to be a paying customer if you’re using their space.
- Be Respectful: Remember that there are guests paying a premium to stay there. Keep your noise level down and be kind to the staff.
- Golden Hour is Best: I recommend going between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to enjoy the sunset. If you want to stay for dinner, call ahead to reserve a table.
