HIKING MT. LAB IN DAPITAN CITY: Travel guide, How To Get To, and Day Hike Itinerary,
After the two-mountain hike experience in Sibutad, this pandemic has truly turned hiking into a hobby for me. There are so many mountain peaks waiting to be explored right here in Zamboanga del Norte, and I’m on a mission to see them all.
Now, I found myself heading to Barangay Sto. Niño. Mt. Lab in Dapitan City is a natural park perfect for someone like me who was just starting to trade the city lights for hiking boots.

Getting to the jump-off point is easy once you reach the heart of Dapitan City.
Once you’re in the city center, here’s how to get to Mt. Lab.
- From the city, hire a motorcycle (habal-habal) or a tricycle.
- Tell the driver you are heading to the Sto. Niño jump-off along the Sto. Niño highway. It’s a well-known spot among local riders!
WHAT TO PACK
Since this is a quick day hike, you don’t need to pack heavy. Keep it light and intentional.
- Water: 1L is usually enough for this short trail.
- Small Trash Bag: Essential! There are no waste disposal systems here yet, so you must bring your trash back down with you.
- Light Snacks: Something to munch on while enjoying the view at the top.
- Cash: Make sure to have small bills for the entrance fee.
WHAT TO WEAR
You don’t need to overdo your outfit for this one. Comfort is the priority. I even wore a pair of workout clothes.
While the trail is easy, it can get very slippery during the rainy season because the path acts as a natural water run-off. Wear shoes with a decent grip.
