As someone who used to be constantly on the go, creating a weekly routine of a work from home freelancer felt unfamiliar at first because there was a time when my routine depended on flights, bus schedules, and island-hopping plans. Now, itโs built around slower mornings, work blocks, and making the most out of staying at home.
And honestly? I didnโt expect to enjoy this phase as much as I do now.
Working from home as a freelancer sounds flexibleโand it isโ but it can also feel repetitive, unstructured, and a little too comfortable. No clear boundaries between work and rest, easy access to snacks, and days where you barely move from your chair.
3 Things I Focus of Doing Now
Instead of letting my days blur together, I started creating a simple weekly routine that works for me as a freelancer who works from home. This is nothing strict, nothing overwhelming. Itโs just something that keeps me feeling good physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Meals: Keeping It Simple, Balanced, and Realistic
I used to overthink grocery lists, like checking every label, researching every ingredient, trying to make everything โperfectly healthy.โ
Now, I keep things simple.
My goal isnโt to completely cut out the food I enjoy. I still have my cravings, my comfort meals, and those random โI donโt feel like cookingโ days. But I try to balance it out by making sure I have easy, go-to meals at home that donโt require too much effort.
My weekly grocery mindset is:
- Choose ingredients I can use in multiple meals
- Keep it budget-friendly and easy to find
- Mix โhealthyโ with โreal lifeโ food
A typical week for me looks like:
- Simple protein + veggies meals
- Easy-to-prepare dishes (nothing too complicated)
- Snacks that donโt make me feel guilty after
I donโt follow a strict diet. I just try to be more mindful of what I eatโmost of the time.
Because letโs be realโฆ there are still days for instant noodles, takeout, and random cravings. And thatโs okay.
Movement: No Pressure, Just Consistency
One thing I learned while working from home is how easy it is to become inactive.
There are days when youโre so focused on work, you donโt even realize youโve been sitting for hours. And at the end of the day, your body just feelsโฆ heavy. So instead of forcing myself into intense workouts, I focused on consistency.
I donโt pressure myself to do long sessions. Some days itโs:
- A quick home workout
- Stretching
- A short walk outside
- Or even just moving around more during the day
What matters is that I move.
I also stopped waiting for motivation. I just start, even if I donโt feel like it. And most of the time, I end up feeling better after.
I donโt plan on building the perfect body. I just want to feel strong, energized, and not stuck in the same position all day.
Mindset: Creating Space for Myself
This is probably the hardest part of working from home. When your home becomes your workplace, itโs easy to feel like youโre always โon.โ Thereโs no clear start or end to your day. Work can spill into your personal time without you even noticing.
So I started creating small habits that help me reset, like:
- Taking breaks without guilt
- Stepping away from my workspace
- Having slow mornings when I can
- Giving myself time to just exist without being productive
Some days are still messy. Some days I feel unmotivated. Some days I donโt follow my routine at all. But Iโve learned not to be too hard on myself.
Because this routine isnโt something I need to follow perfectly every day, but I want something easy to sustain.
Sample of My Weekly Routine as a Work-From-Home Freelancer
This isnโt a strict schedule I follow every single day, but itโs more of a guide that helps me stay balanced throughout the week. I adjust depending on my workload, mood, and energy.
Weekday Routine: What My Monday to Friday Looks Like
Morning (Slow Start)
- Wake up naturally or without rushing
- Light stretching or quick movement
- Coffee + simple breakfast
- Check messages / light admin tasks
I try not to jump straight into heavy work. Giving myself a slow start helps me feel more grounded before the day gets busy.
Late Morning to Afternoon (Work Blocks)
- Focused work (client work, editing, writing, content)
- Short breaks in between
- Lunch (something easy and filling)
This is where I do most of my deep work. I usually work in blocks so I donโt feel drained all at once.
Afternoon Reset
- Quick walk, stretch, or home workout
- Shower / refresh
This is my โreset button,โ especially on days when I feel sluggish or stuck. Even a short movement helps a lot.
Evening (Light & Flexible)
- Light tasks or creative work (planning, ideas, content browsing)
- Dinner
- Wind down (music, scrolling, or just doing nothing)
I donโt pressure myself to be productive at night. This is more of a soft, low-energy part of my day.
Weekend Routine: Saturday to Sunday
I keep weekends more open and less structured, but still intentional.
Saturday (Reset + Life Admin)
- Grocery run or restock essentials
- Clean/organize space
- Catch up on pending tasks
- Sometimes I change environment, like camping outside the house and working there.
This helps me reset for the next week without feeling overwhelmed.
Sunday (Slow & Personal Day)
- Rest, recharge, do nothing if needed
- Self-care (skincare, long shower, journaling, etc.)
- Light planning for the upcoming week
I treat Sundays as my โpauseโ day. No pressure to be productive. I just prepare mentally for a new week.
You donโt have to follow this exactly. Some days youโll be productive. Some days you wonโt. Some days your routine will fall apartโand thatโs completely normal.
7 BEST THINGS TO DO AT HOME: A Travelerโs Guide to Staying Sane
I used to think that being at home meant I was standing still. But in a way, this phase has helped me build a different kind of routine. One thatโs quieter, more grounded, and more intentional.
I still miss traveling. I still look forward to the next trip, the next hike, the next new place.
But for now, this is where I am. And Iโve learned that taking care of yourself doesnโt have to be complicated, even if your world feels smaller for the moment.
You can still grow here.
And when the time comes to move again, you bring that version of yourself with you.

Planning to improve my fitness kasi I’ve been doing bad lately, having a hard time to control my mental health. Takot pa ko mag gym soooo maybe this work out app would help me. Hehehe. It’s great din because may reminders to start working out, ang tamad ko pa naman. Will be following a healthy eating habit too! :))
Grabe. Ang galing mo. Haha. Eversince we moved out from our previous home, nawala na talaga ang pag exercise ko. Like what I said sa IG. Pati yung pag meal prep ko dati hindi na rin nasundan. Kasi totoo, medyo mahal rin talaga magprepare ng healthy meals. Hahaha. Pero sana, sana makabalik rin ako especially we are preparing for a baby. Waaah. Thanks for this, na inspire ako ulit. โค๏ธ
Hahaha napakatagal ko din nagbalik loob sa workout. Alam mo naman mas masarap parin talaga lumamon ng lumamon HAHAHA ๐ Yieeee huy bakit ako na excite sa baby! I’m sooo happy for you! Sige try mo, I mean with the app at first madali lang pero marerealize mo after a week, para ka din talagang nag gym subscription hahaha
